The School of Animal & Comparative Biomedical Sciences (ACBS), Division of Agriculture, Life & Veterinary Sciences & Cooperative Extension, is seeking a proactive and motivated professional for the position of Accountant I. This is a full-time position, 1.0 FTE, working as a member of the ACBS business office team. The successful candidate will possess skills focused on contributing to the growth and development of the office and provide support with financial tasks including effective management of financial resources, including post-award support for the school of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences. Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs complex accounting activities in accordance
with accounting principles and standards to control the institution's
financial resources and ensure that it complies with all relevant
regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. - Reconciles more complex accounts and checks the
accuracy of journal entries to ensure that the general ledger is
accurate and complete. This includes the management and processing of
various financial transaction documents on various accounts (state, foundation,
post-award contracts and grant accounts etc.). - Performs monthly reconciliation and management of
accounts consisting of designated, grant/contract, gift, foundation,
state, and other funding sources, ensuring compliance with external
sponsors, University of Arizona (UA), University of Arizona Foundation
(UAF), and governmental policies and regulations. - Monitors and reconciles various transactions, such as
PCard, travel reimbursements, disbursement vouchers and purchase orders. - Checks and analyzes financial information and
prepares complex financial reports and accounting statements so that
users have accurate and timely information for making financial
decisions. - Account reconciliation and projections. Reviews
accounts monthly using established department procedures. - Acts as a point of contact and consultant in the
documentation of financials within a specific field of accounting
(internal audit, budgets, general accounting, joint ventures accounting,
joint ventures audit, marketing, taxation, or a combination of the
aforementioned). - Works with faculty, PIs, and other ACBS staff to
ensure fiscal and operational compliance with all relevant projects. - Provides post-award support and other financial tasks
for sponsored contracts and grants. Duties include, sub-award support,
reporting, financial projections, account reconciliation, procurement
and accounting services. - Initiate transactions in UAccess Financials such as
General Error Corrections (GEC), Distribution of Income and Expense
(DI), Salary Expense transfers (SET), Transfer of Funds (TF) to move
expenses to appropriate account or object code or fund accounts. - Initiate Request for Budget Change (RBC) in Budget
& Planning portal. - Monitors compliance with generally accepted
accounting principles and University, UA Foundation, and ACBS policies
and procedures. - Communicates and coordinates with College HR liaison
to prepare HR documents including staff recruitment, hiring and
terminations, reviews and approves student and employee time-sheets,
submits new student hire and designated campus colleague (DCC) transactions,
participates in the interviewing process and selecting new staff,
payroll, position funding changes, payment requests, supplemental
compensation, vacation/sick adjustments, and position budgeting. - Serves as a delegate for the Manager of Finance and
Administration in approving daily financial transactions. - Transfer funds from Foundation accounts when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced
learning attained through experience required (5 years equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years or more experience working with accounting principles.
- Previous experience working with sponsored contracts and grants.
