Job Description

The User Support and Business Analyst position is with Virginia Tech's Secure University Research Environment - Electronic Research Administration (VT SURE - ERA) team in the Office of Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech. The ERA team supports researchers using various tools to conduct research with data regulated by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation), and data subject to additional protections. The business analyst's responsibilities include user onboarding and offboarding, user support, application administration, monitoring, and project onboarding and archiving. The position will support the Privacy and Research Data Protection program (PRDP) team with administrative controls for secure computing environments.

Position is hybrid and hybrid work schedule will be confirmed upon hire.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, or related relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in business process analysis and redesign.
  • Experience working with Jira or similar scrum, bug, and project tracking tools.
  • Experience developing and administering training for automated business processes.
  • Desire to take ownership, be creative with problem solving, and proactively secure the objectives of the business.
  • Proactive approach toward learning and understanding of applications and technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in research administration at a university or an agency funding research.
  • Agile/Scrum framework experience, work experience as Scrum Master.

Starting at $70,000; commensurate with experience
