Position Description
HMS's Office for External Education (OEE) provides broad access to a breadth of learners, from health professionals to corporate learners and consumers. OEE programs, products, and content are delivered in multiple means (live, live-virtual, asynchronous, and hybrid) across the globe.

OEE's Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) offers master's degree, certificate, continuing education, and custom programs for physicians, researchers, and other health care providers. Drawing upon world-class HMS faculty, programs and courses are designed to help learners advance their careers and stay up to date on the latest advancements in medical research and clinical practice.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Contract Programs, the Education Program Manager will be responsible for a portfolio of programs delivered online and in-person. This role works closely with HMS faculty program directors and OEE staff to ensure that the learner experience maintains a high educational standard of service and professionalism.

Areas of responsibility:
Course Development:
  • Works with program directors to develop course syllabus and content, clarify program goals and objectives, and plan program activities.
  • Assists program directors with invitations for faculty/staff service.
  • Works with Teaching Assistants to assist with program support.
  • Obtains course materials, with attention to budget; negotiates with vendors and facilitates payments. With Staff, reviews student assessments, builds course gradebook, and tracks learner compliance and remediation/makeup assignments.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for certificate programs of contractual importance to Unit.
  • Manages program budgets.
Course Delivery:
  • Coordinates with staff to initiate learner onboarding, prepare welcome letters, and lead program orientation.
  • Works with education coordinator to deliver courses on Canvas, participates in meetings to sync on deadlines and deliverables, and provides guidance and/or training on program activities.
  • Intervenes on learner issues, and works with learners on remediation plans, withdrawal conversations, and accessibility requests.
  • Serves as backup webinar facilitator. Staffs workshop sessions, virtually and in-person.
  • Works with Program Operations team to manage educational components of all in-person and online workshops for assigned programs. Collects and organizes teaching material from workshop faculty to provide education coordinator.
  • Oversees gradebook of learner activity, sends compliance notices, and escalates issues to Assistant Director of Contract Programs. Facilitates academic clearance process.
  • Reviews course evaluations with faculty and initiates action, as needed.
Administration:
  • Works with staff to update academic statuses.
  • Ensure accurate graduation lists are distributed to appropriate stakeholders.
  • With Education Managers, oversees the maintenance of the online course library.
  • Works with the education team on software testing, process management, and in-unit communications.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of related experience preferably managing students and academic programs in a higher education setting.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Project management skills and oversight.
  • Strong customer service skills, cultural sensitivity.

This is a two-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
