SECL Facilities Manager
Job Description
The Facilities Manager will oversee a dedicated team of maintenance and housekeeping staff in Student Affairs including scheduling, assigning, and monitoring work to completion. They will maintain a budget, ensure timely ordering and receipt of supplies, recognize, address, or elevate concerns relating to building safety and code compliance, and lead departmental sustainability efforts related to maintenance and housekeeping. This role will train new employees and may provide mentorship to new employees in our apprenticeship program.
Here's what you need to know about the role:
1) You'll be joining the Facilities and Operations team; a department centered on providing daily facilities operations and being long-term stewards of residence halls, dining centers, and student centers. In this role, you will be focused on Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) facilities and have a strong relationship with the SECL management staff.
2) You'll be reporting to the Assistant Director for Facilities Management, in a University Staff, Full Time, Calendar Year, Regular, staff position with a FLSA status of Exempt, Not Eligible for Overtime.
3) You'll be responsible for daily oversight and operation of the facilities and housekeeping operations for three facilities including Squires Student Center (240,000 sf.), Johnston Student Center (22,000 sf.), and housekeeping at the University Chapel. This position may additionally support office and support areas within the Graduate Life Center (28,000 sf.).
4) You'll be offered a base compensation package between $60,000 - $68,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!
Required Qualifications
* Previous experience supervising individuals and groups of maintenance trades personnel.
* General overall knowledge of major building systems. Demonstrated experience in the field with at least one building system trade.
* Demonstrated experience with planning and executing preventive maintenance programs.
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
* Ability to successfully work independently as well as in a team environment and effectively communicate information to supervisory staff and multiple constituent groups.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in management, general business, or project management or equivalent training and/or experience.
* Certification or licensure in a building trade.
* Facility Management credentials with APPA, IFMA, or similar organization.
* Previous project management experience.
* Familiarity with sustainability initiatives in facility management.
* Experience with computerized work order management systems such as AiM from AssetWorks (referred to as HokieServ at Virginia Tech).
