Position Description
This Data Scientist role helps uphold TTUHSC's reputation for advanced scientific success by taking data analysis beyond visual insights and developing them into functional solutions through advanced programming capabilities such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to extract and analyze information from large structured and unstructured datasets. This role is an intermediate level for data science. This role is designed for an employee who can work independently, keep up with cross-departmental demands, and lead a small team of (2) data analysts.
The Institutional Data Scientist will serve as the senior data scientist and analyst in TTUHSC's Office of the Provost, Division of Institutional Effectiveness. This position will design, plan, and conduct institutional analytics, institutional research, institutional reporting, and institutional insights, support a data-driven culture for the collection, analysis, insights, modeling, mining, interpretation, and application of institutional data in support of external reporting, internal planning, and other institutional data needs. The Institutional Data Scientist will provide support for management, analysis, insights, and evaluation of institution-wide data and reporting/sharing via dashboards, displays, and reports. Provide support for institutional insights via Large Language Models (LLM), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and/or Artificial Intelligence for data modeling and data mining of multiple TTUHSC data sources. Provide support for the analytics, research, insights, and reporting to the other areas in the Division of Institutional Effectiveness, the Office of the Provost, the Schools, and the Office of the President. The incumbent will serve as a key contributor, advisor, and leader in best practices for data analytics, data visualization, data insights, data governance, and data stewardship.

Major/Essential Functions
A Master's Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer programming or equivalent and 5 years of proven success in a workplace setting related to the project for hire or a combination of related education and experience to equal 10+ years.

- Serve as the lead data manager for the Office of Institutional Research for designing, planning, and conducting institutional analytics, institutional research, institutional reporting, institutional visualizations, institutional insights via Large Language Models (LLM), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and/or Artificial Intelligence for data modeling and data mining from the institution's systems including Student Information System (SIS), Learning Management System (LMS), Institutional Management Systems (IMS).
- Prepare, extract, validate, verify, analyze, coordinate, and manage the completion of projects with data from multiple information systems and databases to ensure the data, analysis, insights and reports are accurate, consistent, reviewed and submitted by the published due date.
- Prepare, extract, validate, verify, analyze, coordinate, and manage the development of standard, routine, and ad hoc query structures and tools with SIS-Banner, COGNOS, Institution's LMS, and Institution's IMS.
- Prepare, coordinate, and manage the training for the Division of Institutional Effectiveness and the Office of the Provost on standard, routine, and ad hoc query queries and reports from HSC's systems and end users on access and use of data visualizations.
- Prepare, develop, coordinate and manage institutional insights via Large Language Models (LLM), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and/or Artificial Intelligence for data modeling and data mining of multiple data sources.
- Actively pursue professional education and development to maintain currency and knowledge of institutional analytics, institutional research, institutional insights, and data visualization best practices in order to proficiently perform duties required by the position.
- Complete other duties as assigned to support the division of Institutional Effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher from an institutionally accredited post-secondary institution in a field with demonstrated expertise in data analytics, statistical analysis, data reporting, and data visualization.
- Experience in data extraction, analysis, insights, and reporting from higher education data information systems, including student information systems, learning management systems, and institutional management systems.
- Experience in the planning, designing, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of institutional data, displays, dashboards, and reports.
- Experience in data insights via Large Language Models (LLM), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and/or Artificial Intelligence for data modeling and data mining from multiple data sources, data combination and data translation.
- Experience with data analytics tools-SPSS, SAS, Stata, and/or R
- Experience managing and coordinating large and complex projects under time constraints while interacting with high-level professionals.
- Five years of experience with Cognos data analysis, visualizations, and dashboards or equivalent.
- Five years of experience with Banner student information system or equivalent.
- Five years of experience with IPEDS reporting or equivalent.
- Five years of experience with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board reporting or equivalent.
- Five years of experience with institutional and programmatic accreditation reporting or equivalent.
- Experience with GIS analytics and tools or equivalent.
- Two years of experience with Large Language Models (LLM), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and/or Artificial Intelligence for data modeling and data mining or equivalent.
