Position Highlights

The Director, Recruitment and Engagement directs the Office of Recruitment and Engagement in the Dean's Office in the College of Science. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, experience in Microsoft Office, public speaking, management, and event management. We seek a director with a passion for public education, especially in the sciences and a commitment to provide excellent customer service. This position occasionally requires night or weekend availability.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides
    leadership and supervise team of SR Coordinator (1), Student Assistant
    (1), Science Ambassador Team (27 science students), College of Science
    Recruitment Committee (staff and faculty reps from every dept, 26
    members):
    1. Weekly 1:1 meeting with SR Coordinator and annual Career Conversation - divide responsibilities, supervise and provide professional development. Core activities include recruitment initiatives, special event management and Science Ambassador programs.
    2. Recruit, interview, train, supervise, coordinate, evaluate and mentor Science Ambassador cohort annually for in person and virtual recruitment initiatives on the local, regional and national level. Provide professional development in science communication and public outreach. Monitor and record individual and group metrics to measure and recognize service.
    3. Train and supervise student assistant on projects related to office administration, recruitment activities, special events and Science Ambassador program.
    4. Chair College of Science Recruitment Committee - conduct quarterly meetings, liaise with dept representatives on recruitment programs and activities at the department, college and campus and national level. Communicate dates/deadlines/logistics and shared resources.
  2. Develop recruitment initiatives content (print, digital, video,
    presentations, training materials, customer relationship management (CRM)
    system, web page(s), internal/external communications) for the college. These
    may include:
    1. Science communications strategic plan in partnership with
      institutional Marketing and Communications team and UA Undergraduate
      Admissions/Enrollment Management
    2. Science Info session presentations & prospective student materials
    3. Evaluates progress and results, and initiates changes as needed for all
      recruitment programs. Collect, evaluate, and share data of respective
      recruitment projects with college leadership as applicable. Controls resources
      and assist in annual budget submission as applicable.
  3. Develop, modify, and execute annual & long term, strategic plan of
    recruitment initiatives in partnership with UA Enrollment
    Management/Undergraduate Admissions.
    1. Lead representative for university-wide recruitment committee(s)
    2. Lead representative for university-wide undergraduate recruitment events
    3. Oversee VIP Prospective Student Tours in partnership with science
      departments and campus units
    4. Partner on College-specific recruitment initiatives (email, text, mailings,
      bridge summer courses)
    5. Set-up Science Info Sessions by semester in partnership with science
      departments (CBC and Psychology)
    6. Host VIP Dept/Research tours for annual Flinn and other special Scholar
      visits
    7. Annual review of reports, metrics, and analytics in prospective student CRM
    8. Large-scale special event management for prospective students (Admitted
      Student Day, high school STEM visits, etc.)
    9. Representation at local, regional and National College and STEM Fairs
  4. Oversee planning, coordination and implementation of bi-annual College
    of Science Convocation ceremonies and annual New Student Welcome event.
    1. Lead representative for College on Commencement and Ceremonies Committee -
      to collaborate on venue, security, facilities management, live-streaming,
      photography, logistics, communications, catering, disability services, parking,
      etc.
    2. Request student invite list of eligible, undergrad/graduate students to
      participate in commencement from Senior Data Analyst
    3. Partner with Science Marketing and Communications team on messaging
      (invites, confirmations, and reminders), and RSVP system for student graduates
      and website updates
    4. Lead and coordinate commencement team of 40+ dept faculty and staff that run
      the ceremony.
    5. Manages budget pertaining to the event.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Significant public speaking experience, exceptional interpersonal skills,
    partnership building experience, science communication skills, superb customer
    service skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advance learning attained through professional level experience required.  Minimum of 7 years of related work experience, including 3 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • This position occasionally requires night or weekend availability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field and familiarity with the University of Arizona and one or more College of Science degree programs.
  • Recruitment experience in higher education, large event management experience, project management experience.
