Associate Director, Digital Platforms
Job Description
The Associate Director of Digital Platforms manages a team of designers, programmers and web developers to align digital platforms and products to university, communications and marketing, and advancement priorities.
Reporting to the Director of Web Communications, this individual works collaboratively with communications professionals across the university to conceptualize, plan, develop, and produce websites, email tools, and other digital platforms and products that are well functioning, aesthetically appealing, and accessible to all users.
The digital platforms and products team will use a product development process that seeks to understand users and audiences, evaluate assumptions about how they use digital tools, design, and test solutions toward continuous improvement prior to completing a project. This iterative approach allows Virginia Tech to leverage best in class digital platforms and tools to improve engagement online, improve the reach of storytelling, and make the user's digital experience more seamless.?
In addition, the team is responsible for both front-end web development and measuring user experience and provides consultation across the university to support best practices in communications, marketing, fundraising, and storytelling.
The outcome of all these efforts is to create and maintain aligned communication platforms that support and improve Virginia Tech's ability to inform, engage, and partner with a diverse spectrum of audiences and elevate the Virginia Tech brand.
The Associate Director of Digital Platforms should have:
- Knowledge of a variety of creative software and content management systems
- Knowledge of best practices in branded, measurable, and digital storytelling
- Knowledge of creative process and design principles, along with industry standard software for production
- Knowledge of the advancement model as it applies to higher education marketing and communications
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree with extensive experience
- Demonstrated experience taking a project from concept to completion, launch, and evaluation
- Demonstrated experience in digital design and best practices in web development and UX principles
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work cooperatively across a complex organization
