Position Summary
The Department of Biology at Austin Peay State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor-Aquatic Biologist. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position to begin August 2024. We seek a colleague whose research interests compliment and expand the Department's existing strengths in ecology, evolution, and organismal biology and whose research focuses on freshwater macroinvertebrate communities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Department values faculty who excel in teaching and research and who are committed to being part of a dynamic team. The successful applicant will be expected to actively engage in teaching both undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) classes and will have the opportunity to teach in a variety courses including General Biology, Aquatic Biology, Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Biology, and other existing or developed courses in their area of expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in sustained and substantive research that includes direction of undergraduate and graduate (M.S. thesis-track) students. In particular, we seek candidates with experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and who demonstrate a commitment to improving and extending opportunities in biology to under-served populations. Modest research space, startup funds, and equipment will be provided. Other expectations include participation in undergraduate and graduate advising, curriculum development, and service to the Department, College and University.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A typical teaching load is two lectures and two labs per semester. Candidates are expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising, aid in curriculum development, and provide service to the Department and College.
- Ph.D. in biology or related field; ABD will be considered if all requirements of the degree are met by the date of hire; post-doctoral experience preferred.
- A demonstrated record of scholarly achievement and ability to develop and obtain extramural funding for a research program appropriate for a regional university.
- A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
