Position Summary
Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Professor of African American literature. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position to begin August 2024. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of African American Literature courses. We especially invite candidates able to contribute to courses in Post-colonial Literature, Women's and Gender Studies, or African American Studies. Likewise, we seek candidates that demonstrate respect for the diverse teaching and learning needs of students. Successful candidates will exhibit the ability to effectively work with colleagues to support the mission of related academic units, and co-curricular centers such as the African American Cultural Center.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and master's courses in specialty area(s), plus core classes in composition and world literature.
-Be responsible for a 4/4 teaching load credits per academic year, and 6 service credits of which will be for advisement, research, committee work, etc.
- Conduct appropriate research and scholarly/creative activity within the discipline.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development and growth by being active in professional and community service.
- Exhibit motivation and initiative in keeping up-to-date and current in one's curriculum area by reading/reviewing current scholarly or creative works in their field and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and development activities sponsored by the University.
- Serve effectively on committees and other appropriate functions that assist in University governance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Faculty teach undergraduate and master's courses in specialty area(s) plus core classes in composition and world literature.

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English in the instructional discipline or related area by time of appointment from an accredited institution.
-ABD will be considered with scheduled defense date.
-Documented evidence of high quality professional productivity which may lead to national recognition in the academic discipline, and/or consonant with the goals of the University and of the academic unit to which the faculty member belongs.
-Documented evidence of ability in academic assignment and/or scholarly and creative achievement, and/or professional contributions and activities.
-Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity.
