Job Description
Reconciles, audits & updates financial records, including preparation of journal entries. Processes orders & payments to vendors. Audits & processes travel reimbursements & payroll. Develops & updates electronic spreadsheets and reports. Reconciles, updates and audits fixed asset and financial records; identifies errors and prepares correcting journal entries. Processes payroll, Hokie Mart orders, travel reimbursements, and cash receipts as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, or related business discipline. Demonstrated proficiency in use of electronic Procurement, Finance, Human Resource, Payroll, Travel, and Microsoft Office Suite systems with high aptitude for assimilating new technology. Experience with electronic fixed asset tracking, payroll processing and fund/government accounting practices, budgeting, reporting and reconciliations. Demonstrated knowledge of university funds handling practices. One year of accounting experience, including the use of financial & procurement software such as Banner Finance & Hokie Mart. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal communication skills. Cooperative attitude & commitment to customer service in a multicultural environment. Ability to work independently and maintain confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA, CIA, CMA or similar accounting certification. Knowledge of fund accounting & state & university policies & procedures. Master's degree in accounting, economics, or related business discipline. Demonstrated proficiency in use of SciQuest/Hokie Mart, Banner Finance & HRIS, Excel, Word, TimeClock Plus (TCP), TEM, Outlook, and PowerPoint software. Five years or more of progressive experience in accounting and fiscal activities in higher education. Supervisory experience.
