Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the financial aspects of student accounts to ensure accuracy, compliance with regulations, and efficient customer service for students and their families within an educational institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing student refunds in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Coordinating the disbursement of AmeriCorps awards and ELM loans in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Adding short-term loan charges and TIV repayment charges to students' accounts.
  • Adjusting student account balances based on successful refund appeals.
  • Maintaining student cohorts in the Banner system to ensure accurate data records.
  • Reviewing and refunding outstanding credit balances on student accounts promptly.
  • Assisting in the preparation of 1098-T tax forms to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Withholding the appropriate amount of tax on scholarships for Non-Resident Alien (NRA) students and determining eligibility for tax treaty benefits.
  • Remitting tax withholdings to the Internal Revenue Service and compiling 1042-S student data.
  • Communicating effectively with students, parents, and stakeholders about account balances, refunds, and tax-related inquiries.
  • Addressing questions and concerns related to student accounts promptly and professionally.
  • Maintaining precise and up-to-date records of all financial transactions and adjustments.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or other related field OR eight years professional experience performing accounting duties and responsibilities.
    • One to two years experience using Microsoft Excel.
    • At least one year of professional experience processing financial transactions, preparing and submitting invoices for payment, matching payments to invoices, or other similar account reconciliation experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks and meet deadlines, while maintaining organization and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Proficiency with financial software, preferably Banner or similar systems.
    • Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance in higher education.
    • Experience in a higher education business office environment.
    Additional Information

Salary will be between $46,050 and $50,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
