The Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) comprises over 10 faculty members supervising around 100 international graduate students and visiting scholars conducting research in large state-of-the-art laboratory facilities with millions of dollars in research contracts and global industry consortium of over 90 companies, and with operations divided between Blacksburg and the National Capital Region.
In collaboration with the CPES Executive Board (EB) and CPES Industry Program Director, the Web Developer will conceptualize and organize digital media and other services for CPES industry consortium, research sponsors, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars; Collect information from CPES faculty, staff, and students about ongoing research activities and outcomes, as well as planned outreach activities, assemble and compile the information and present it as advanced digital content suitable for online and offline publishing; Prepare regular (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) updates for all information dissemination services provided to CPES constituencies: industry consortium members, industry and government sponsors, CPES faculty, staff, and visiting scholars; Coordinate the online portion of the CPES conference including working with external vendors to live stream event, student management, platform selection, platform developing, publication uploading system, technical support during conference, and any technical support issues that arise. Assist and advise faculty and staff in technical support/implementation for online platforms (i.e. meetings and conferences). Solely responsible for full stack development, maintenance, and integration into current systems (including planning, user analysis, design, and git management) of web-based applications on internal (purchasing, leave, lab validations, travel) and external websites. Work with external web vendors when needed on external website (including technical support, coding, redesign, etc.).
The position will provide support for the CPES lab operations in the following ways. Assist CPES Lab Operations Director in maintaining the Center's IT system (end user support, user access management, and software/hardware licensing and management). Assist in researching and implementing any new IT systems including, but not limited to, digital signage, virtualization, server migration, high performance computing coordination. Guide Arlington lab technical support with IT systems. Assist in determining amounts of security needed for servers and IT systems. Assist with maintaining SharePoint file server site for CPES.
Customer service and end user support experience
Knowledge of Windows Active Directory and Group Policy
Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Cloud Environments (SharePoint and Azure)
Working knowledge of information technology systems including security and networking, Linux based systems including VPN, Client Server Environments, licensing frameworks such as FlexNet Publisher or Flexlm
Experience with repair and maintenance of PC and Apple systems
International exposure and experience of collaborating with people and institutions from many countries with different languages and cultures
Prior experience of working in engineering research and education environment.
$60,000-$80,000 per year
