Position, Department: Scen Shop Assistant, Academic Affairs

Type of Position: Part-time Temporary, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies, 12 hours per week

Pay Range: $15.00-$18.75 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Pay Grade: 50.50

Benefits Category: Partial benefits

Position Summary: Responsible for the daily tasks, organization, upkeep and operations of the Academic Theatre program shops and performance spaces. Duties include scenic art, operation and care of a variety of woodworking and metal working tools, assisting the hang and focus of lighting equipment and equipment supervision of volunteer student labor and other duties as assigned by the Academic Theatre Technical Director. Some nights and weekends are required for the supervision of the technical aspects of the production season.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift (40) pounds and climb ladders
  • Basic knowledge of woodworking, apparel construction or theatre production operations

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in theatre or related discipline
  • Knowledge of scenic art or costume construction practices

    Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
    • Production Support - Provide skilled labor and support for academic theatre productions Performance is acceptable when: a. tasks assigned are completed in a correct and timely fashion b. procedures, tools and equipment are used in a safe and acceptable fashion c. all production standards are maintained as determined by the department.
    • Student Labor - Supervise volunteer student labor Performance is acceptable when: a. students work on tasks in a safe and productive manner b. communication of safe working procedures and practices are maintained b. students work together in a collaborative and collegial atmosphere.
    • Shop Maintenance - Workspaces are clean, organized and safe Performance is acceptable when: a. shops are clean and organized on a regular basis as assigned b. tools and equipment are clean and kept in a safe working manner c. all performance spaces are kept safe, organized and clean.
    • Other - Institutional requirements are met Performance is acceptable when: a. timecards are completed and submitted on a timely basis. b. mandatory training is completed on an annual basis c. professional work habits and expectations are met.
