Administrative Application Developer

The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health's Department of Information Technology is seeking an Administrative Application Developer responsible for supporting the School's internal financial management system, known as Wasabi.
The Administrative Application Developer will join the Web and Application Development team, which consists of 9 dedicated and talented IT professionals striving to build a teamwork foundation of collaboration, respect, and creativity. The team's portfolio includes a variety of cloud hosted applications such as a multi-tenant content management system, Intranet, 2 Salesforce CRM organizations, student information system, science laboratory inventory system, and several other web applications that support the School's academic, research, and administrative computing needs.
The successful candidate, along with a peer developer, will be responsible for the development and maintenance of Wasabi. They will also assist with product management in defining features and requirements, optimizing and improving existing processes and code, developing appropriate testing strategies, and providing end user training and support.
An ideal Administrative Applications Developer will have hands-on experience with the entire software development life cycle and be skilled in .NET software development best practices, quality assurance, and unit testing automation. They must also be a fast learner and will play a key role on the product development team, employing Agile development techniques.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design and develop software applications using Microsoft technologies, frameworks, and tools
- Interact with and support customers (staff, faculty, and students)
- Collaborate with business users on business analysis activities to identify opportunities for improvements by creating requirements, help prioritizing work and proposing practical technical solutions to solve business problems
- Create and deliver basic training sessions to customers
- Interact and collaborate with vendors on larger upgrades and improvement projects
- Collaborate with teammates, SPH IT staff and central Harvard staff on system integrations and cloud infrastructure
- Test, provide quality assurance, troubleshoot, and create documentation (technical and customer-facing) for Wasabi
- Use AGILE and DevOps practices
- Collaborate with other team members through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Fulfill other duties as assigned
PLEASE NOTE: This is a hybrid position and this position will be based in Boston, MA. Additional detail pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, California (exempt staff only), Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington).
- Minimum of two years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience as a software developer, with ideally a focus on Microsoft technologies strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of software development experience preferred or similar experience
- Prior experience working in higher education, financial systems, HR IS, a plus but not required
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C#, .NET, ASP.NET, and related frameworks
- Experience with Microsoft development tools, including Visual Studio and Azure DevOps
- Familiarity with databases and SQL, particularly Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience with cloud technologies and services, especially Microsoft Azure, is a plus
- Certifications related to Microsoft technologies and programming are advantageous
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience working effectively in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Minimum two years' additional post-secondary education or relevant work experience
- Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipment
- Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
