Clinic Assistants perform clinical, laboratory, and clerical support activities in our outpatient clinic. Incumbent will assist physicians and other medical personnel in providing patient care, preparing patients for procedures and examinations, recording vital patient data, and performing standardized routine laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy, patient specimen collection, and specimen processing. Incumbents also perform routine clerical procedures such as directing patients, accessing tests, producing reports, answering telephones, gathering and entering data, and scheduling appointments.

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor patient flow in office, scheduling appointments
  • Clinical preparation- clean and prepare exam rooms for patient examinations
  • Prepare patients for exams. Obtain vital signs, medical history, allergies, and enter corresponding information in EMR
  • Perform lab testing as ordered by provider to include urine, pregnancy, and various blood tests
  • Perform in person triage of patients presenting at window for appointments
  • Respond to requests from patients by phone, mail, and email
  • Enter patient information and immunization requirements into EMR and BANNER
  • Scan in pertinent medical records into EMR

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in a medical setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • The ability to work with a diverse population while displaying cultural sensitivity.
  • Completion of one of the following: 

A. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program of one year in duration; OR

B. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program which is less than one year in duration and post Medical Assistant Program Experience in a clinical/healthcare setting that together equals at least one year; OR

C. License, limited permit, or eligibility for a limited permit to practice as a Practical Nurse in New York State, or Licensed Practical Nurse certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience charting in an electronic medical record.
  • Familiarity with patient privacy laws.
  • The ability to carry out specific assignments in a timely manner without deviating from instructions.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, September 15, 2023 and ending Thursday, September 28, 2023, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • Salary: $50,000 + $3,026 in downstate location pay = $53,026 Total Annual Compensation.
