Job Summary
Provide support to the career service and alumni affairs function of the department including corporate outreach, communications and instruction. Work closely with departmental leadership to meet the defined strategic initiatives of program.

Career Advising & Coordination
* Advising for economics students on career development, job search strategies, and graduate school preparation both domestically and internationally, understanding individual pursuits and alignment with departmental degrees.
* Actively monitor, track, guide, and support student progress towards career goals.
* Support student preparation for job searches by providing and coordinating resume reviews, mock interviews, professional profile development, and skill assessment.
* Maintain updated records of student meetings and interactions, including their career advancement and employment activities. Keep timely detailed records of student meetings and communication in the campus advising system, mastering the use of relevant University, College, and Department databases and software systems.
* Create promotional and informational sheets, brochures, and fliers for all economics programs on various employment trajectories and opportunities for students, staff, and employers, and maintain website and other virtual and printed resources.
* Deliver career workshops, seminars, and events, including job exploration and preparation, as well as other professional development activities.
* Support efforts of all program offices, working collaboratively to create a holistic and positive

experience for a diverse group of students.
* Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, parents/families, and others as appropriate, within the parameters of FERPA and campus policies.
* Serve as a resource regarding the economics curriculums and courses to colleagues and build strong campus connections.
* Meet and assist prospective and admitted students and their families throughout the semester, during summer orientation, and support the undergraduate office's recruitment efforts.
* Become a member of the campus Career Services Council and serve on topical committees that benefit Economics students.
* Collaborate with the LAS Career Services office

Curricular and Co-Curricular Development and Teaching
* Instruct, coordinate, and evaluate the required ECON 198 Economics at Illinois career development course every semester for all undergraduate majors.
* Instruct, develop, and evaluate the internship courses for undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing the student application and registration process.
* Provide curricular support to economics instructors by connecting them with companies, updating them on current career trends, and educating them on relevant skills important for economics students in the competitive job market.
* Collaborate with economics degree programs to identify, create, and integrate relevant professional development co-curricular programs.

Employer/Corporate Outreach and Engagement
* Work on corporate engagement to identify potential career opportunities and create more prospects domestically and globally, working with other campus and college career professionals.
* Develop relationships with companies, non-profit organizations, and alumni to encourage and assist in developing internship/ experiential education opportunities and professional connections for students.
* Direct diversity initiatives, outreach and partnerships related to employer and professional

* Collaborate with LAS Corporate Relations and the campus Office of Corporate Relations to identify and secure companies to partner with the Economics Data Lab.

Alumni Relations
* Represent the Department of Economics as a point of contact for alumni.
* Assist in the development and coordination of alumni-focused regional and national programs year-round.
* Increase the number of alumni visiting campus to serve as panelists, speakers, workshop facilitators for informational interviews with students. Maintain information regarding potential speakers, panelists, workshop facilitators, etc. Support the development of student programming that includes alumni.
* Serve as a resource to faculty interested in engaging alumni in the classroom and the work of the department. Identify alumni interested in supporting student development through experiential opportunities such as research and capstone projects, etc.
* Work closely with Assistant Director for Career and Alumni Affairs to foster alumni and employer relationships and to encourage the development of internship and full-time employment opportunities for students and alumni; respond to alumni hiring needs overall.
* Track and maintain current alumni data (i.e., contact information, employment status, desired level of engagement, etc.) for all Economics degree levels (B.A, B.S. MSPE, Ph.D.).
* Develop content for alumni e-newsletter. Identify, interview and write profiles on alumni.
* Maintain Alumni section of Economics web page. Create social media content spotlighting alumni successes, impact in the community and career paths; promote job and internship opportunities and Economics events.

* Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive communications plan that includes marketing and advertising, social media, outreach initiatives and other materials that increases awareness of Economics programs, services, and resources.
* Designs and creates marketing materials as needed - both printed and electronic media. Print media includes brochures, calendars, ads, signs, flyers, banners, etc. Electronic media includes digital ads, social media graphics, motion graphics, videos, and website graphics.
* Maintains level of knowledge pertaining to graphic design and marketing in an effort to keep up with most current trends and techniques.
* Manages department website strategy and content, online calendars, social media presence, and use of other online media

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. A total of one (1) year (12 months) of work experience in career services, employer/corporate outreach, student affairs, or academic advising in a collegiate environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree, preferably within the field of College Student Development; Higher Education; Human Resources; Counseling; Business; Liberal Arts & Sciences area, or other related fields.

Two years of full-time professional experience or related graduate-level experience working with college students in academic advising, alumni relations, counseling, career development, student affairs, or other programs to assist students in higher education; Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and ability to articulate the value of diversity and inclusivity; Experience with a variety of social media platforms; Experience working with student groups and organizations; Strategic marketing planning experience.

Successful candidates will have the following:
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Ability to multi-task by handling multiple projects simultaneously and meet concurrent deadlines
  • Knowledge of website content management systems
  • Ability to collaborate and work with students, staff, faculty, and parents from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to concerns, motivations, and learning patterns of undergraduate students
  • Understanding of the needs of a diverse undergraduate student population, including students from underrepresented backgrounds and international students
  • Ability to coordinate with alumni from all Economics disciplines (B.A, B.S., MSPE, and Ph.D)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and independently
  • Understanding of economics as a major
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after deadline date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
