Job Description

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Facilities Management, the Construction Trades Manager will participate as a key member of the facilities management team within the Division of Student Affairs for the Facilities and Operations department. The Construction Trades Manager will have responsibility for the daily operations of the carpentry shop, painters and plasterers, roofing, and floor coverings for the division. The Construction Manager will also have responsibility for the Cabinet Shop and Events and Moving teams withing the department. The trades manager will coordinate and schedule sub-contractors for the building trades used by the division. The manager will be responsible for maintaining and expanding the existing preventative maintenance program. Daily workloads will be assigned and monitored through the use of the computerized work order system. The manager will be responsible for ensuring completion of all work in accordance with established guidelines and goals. They will be responsible for the coordination of parts acquisition between the maintenance technicians and the parts department. The manager will be responsible for oversight and coordination of the work schedule to provide the optimum level of service to the operation. The manager will coordinate all sub-contractors and suppliers to assure timely and accurate service.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in management, general business or construction management or equivalent related training and/or experience managing trades and projects.
  • Experience scheduling and monitoring the progress of work to assure timely completion.
  • Experience using a computerized work order system to assign and track customer work requests.
  • Proven effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use and experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Previous experience estimating and scheduling construction trades to assure project completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in a building systems trade.
  • Construction management in a commercial or residential environment.
