The Communication Department at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, is seeking an enthusiastic and well-qualified individual for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Communication, with an emphasis in applied leadership, to begin the Fall 2024 semester. Successful candidates will be comfortable teaching a variety of communication courses with an intersectional pedagogical approach (e.g., identity, organization and/or health). Special consideration will be given to those who specialize in qualitative and rhetorical methods. The successful candidate also will coordinate the curriculum for the department's foundational courses in the applied leadership area. Tenure track faculty at UT teach a 4/4 teaching load. While the primary considerations for tenure at UT are currently teaching and service, having an active research trajectory with publications and/or conference presentations is a component of tenure and promotion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2023, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2023. Annual salary of $56,000 - $58,000 depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching. Responsibilities
- Teach 24 credits per academic year (with potential for overload) in Communication. Course assignments include communication/media theory, public speaking, rhetorical communication, and media rhetoric as well as introductory communication and media courses within the department curriculum.
- Provide regular institutional service as outlined in Regent and University policy.
- Consult with department chair and college dean in creating and proposing new curriculum.
- Work with other faculty in program management, including furthering development and campus promotion of the Communication field, department, and programs.
- Adhere to department, college, and university policies and perform campus-wide faculty responsibilities, including:
- Holding regular office hours.
- Advising communication students.
- Attending department, division, and university meetings and events.
- Serving on university, college, and department committees.
- Engaging in community, university, departmental, and discipline service activities.
- Teach one or more courses per semester in online or blended formats.
- Develop and maintain a scholarship agenda in area of expertise that is appropriate to a teaching university like Utah Tech.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair and/or college dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Communication or a related field required, with an emphasis in leadership, identity or health communication. ABD candidates will be considered if completion of degree will occur by July 31, 2024.
- Experience teaching and/or designing courses related to leadership.
- Demonstrated history of successful instruction in college-level courses, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques and strategies.
- Experience in curriculum development preferred; the successful candidate will be expected to develop courses in their area of content expertise and as needed by the department.
- Ability and willingness to participate in college and departmental student recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Ability and desire for a collegial, team-oriented workplace.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with good organization and time management skills.
- Expertise in the area of leadership communication (intersectional candidates are a plus).
- A desire to be at a teaching university and a willingness to support all students' success.
- A qualitative and/or rhetorical approach to the study of communication.
- Prior experience serving on committees or participating in service-related activities.
- Research trajectory or agenda that would enhance departmental or university recognition via representation in journals and/or at conferences.
- Experience teaching, and working with, students with diverse educational backgrounds.
- Previous online teaching experience and/or using online learning platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate active learning and technology in the classroom.
