Position Highlights

The University of Arizona seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Associate Director, Faculty Programs for our Tucson area location. Responsibilities include: Identify and implement best practices for faculty on-boarding and mentoring programs using the knowledge of Quantitative Analysis; Mentoring Programs; Inclusive Practices, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Current Higher Education Strategies and Educational Policy and Practice. In addition, Serves as an instructor by teaching courses with the Science Department which includes creating and designing course plans and lessons to teach students in the STEM field to explore topics at the nexus of leadership, diversity, and opportunities within STEM careers. The position requires a PhD in Higher Education, or foreign equivalent and one (1) year experience in Higher Education. This position is non-security sensitive and requires a name-based criminal background check.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop programs for new faculty, faculty mentors and administrators to improve productivity and retention
  • Consult with campus faculty groups to support their efforts
  • Consult with leaders of research, teaching and other support units on possible collaborations with faculty affairs
  • Participate in planning related to issues of equity and inclusive excellence in areas of faculty recruitment, promotion, and retention
  • Assist with review of climate surveys and preparing materials to share and discuss with faculty and administrative leaders
  • Develop, deliver and report on faculty exit surveys, with follow-up interviews of faculty reporting concerns about inclusion and other issues
  • Research peers and national trends to assess opportunities and needs for improving faculty, including those from underrepresented groups and provide reports to University Administrators
  • Assist with development of materials for new faculty orientation
  • Worked with University Communications to develop stories focused on faculty recognition as well as faculty concerns
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrated competency in independently leading and organizing programs in higher ed settings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. in Higher Education, Education Administration, Educational Policy, Sociology, Psychology, or related field. 
  • One (1) year experience in Higher Education.
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative datasets
  • Experience with preparing data reports to share with diverse constituencies
  • Experience in working well with collaborative teams of interdisciplinary faculty
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analyses
