The Health and Human Kinetics (HHK) department at Ohio Wesleyan University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Exercise Science at the Assistant Professor rank. We are especially interested in candidates committed to excellent undergraduate teaching and to developing a vibrant research program that involves undergraduates of all experience levels and from diverse backgrounds, including those who are traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. 

The HHK department serves students across concentrations in exercise science, sports management, and nutrition. Our mission focuses on evidence-based teaching and a student-centered curriculum where students are engaged in exploring current and emerging theoretical content, and applying that content in closely-mentored contexts in the areas of human movement, sport, nutrition, and personal and public health. Our students and faculty value working with diverse populations in a variety of contexts to enhance the quality of life for residents of the local community through outreach efforts.

This job is part of a cluster of positions with which Ohio Wesleyan seeks to further diversify its curriculum and faculty. Responsibilities

  • Teaching a range of undergraduate courses such as: exercise physiology, kinesiology, motor learning, advanced cardiovascular assessment and evaluation, biomechanics, and personal health

  • Advising students in their academic journey

  • Engaging in a consistent and focused line of research

  • Providing service to the department, university, and profession

  • Assisting in curriculum development, revision, and evaluation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in exercise science, health science, kinesiology, or a related field Interdisciplinary degrees are welcome

  • ABD will be considered, but terminal degree must be conferred by August 18, 2024

  • Evidence of an active research agenda

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven evidence of successful teaching at the college level

  • Expertise in exercise physiology and/or health fitness

  • Professional experience/certifications in an exercise science-related field

  • Previous experience with academic advising or mentoring

  1. Teaching statement: a statement articulating your teaching philosophy. Please address your ability to teach a wide range of courses and employ a variety of pedagogical techniques to reach students from different backgrounds.

  2. DEI Statement: a 1-page statement that describes your experience and/or approach to supporting students from underrepresented groups, including examples of ways you have intentionally addressed diversity, equity, and inclusion in your classroom and/or community.

  3. Research statement: a statement that describes your experience and/or approach to research and/or scholarship activities, and your future interests.

  4. Three professional references, two of which should be able to comment on your teaching effectiveness. Please note: receipt of reference letters is not required to begin the application review process.
