Human Resources Administrator
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Human Resources Administrator provides human resources and administrative support to the Director of Operations, Assistant Director of Operations, and Fiscal Team for the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM). The BEAM HR Administrator serves as one of the main HR representatives and liaison for BEAM with VT's central HR Department, employees and multiple working groups to streamline all HR transactions and collect and disseminate timely information. This position is responsible recruiting, hiring, and conducting on and off-boarding processes for all BEAM employees. The BEAM HR Administrator is also responsible for: Coordinating all aspects of personnel recruitments including assisting with crafting job descriptions and postings, providing comprehensive support throughout all aspects of the search and hiring processes, assisting with recruitment strategies to attract a robust and diverse work force, completing all personnel appointments in electronic or paper format in a timely and complete manner, assists with all onboarding and off boarding activities for all BEAM employees, preparing and maintaining employment records including data entry into the HRIS system updating employees' records including hiring, separation, promotions, etc. in a timely manner. The HR administrator will also serve as the main leave and wage payroll representative for the Department. The BEAM HR Administrator also works with the VT ISS office to ensure all international visitors and students within the Department have the proper work authorizations and handles all matters in a strictly confidential nature.
Required Qualifications
- College degree in business, administration or other related field
- Previous human resources and/or administrative experience in an academic or professional office environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Prior experience using enterprise human resources and/or financial management systems
- Maintain strict con?dentiality of sensitive information
- Strong organizational, planning, interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities within set deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work proactively and effectively with a diverse clientele and to create and maintain collaborative relationships.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image
Preferred Qualifications
- HR certification (e.g PHR or SHRM-CP).
- Prior experience working in a human resources setting involving recruitment of new employees, onboarding, and completing personnel transactions at Virginia Tech.
- Experience using Page Up, Banner, HokieMart, Chrome River, Leave Reporting System, I-9 system, and Time Clock Plus.
- Previous experience working in a higher education environment
- Experience working with, knowledge of, and application of University policies and procedures, particularly those relating to human resources and compliance.
