MSU Denver's Colorado SpaceTech Scholars program is committed to developing a pipeline for MSU Denver students seeking careers into the growing Colorado aerospace industries. Within MSU Denver, it is a program dedicated to undergraduate student success, diversifying these industries from the underrepresented communities served by MSU, and engaging K-12 partners in equitable STEM access and professional identity development. The scholarship program is federally funded by the Department of Education for Hispanic Serving Institutions of higher education and is part of MSU Denver's broader Hispanic Serving Initiatives.
MSU Denver's Colorado SpaceTech Scholars program is for pursuing a degree in the aerospace/aeronautics or engineering technician fields. The STEM Community Coordinator will work with staff & faculty throughout the College of Aerospace, Computing, Engineering, and Design (C-ACED) to co-develop and sustain a linked learning community through various industry and academically driven programs and events. The SpaceTech learning community is based on a cohort program model with goals of retention, engagement, community building, and professional development. Ultimately, students will partake in courses, programming, events, workshops, and industry tours strategically planned to guide them to eventually graduate with the knowledge, skills, and connections to succeed in their respective career pathway.

We are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) located in downtown Denver. Responsibilities
The STEM Community Coordinator of the Colorado SpaceTech Scholars Program will work closely with the SpaceTech Project Manager and other members of the SpaceTech Scholar's team to complete the undergraduate engagement, community building, and student success goals of this grant. This effort will include the following activities and responsibilities.
Learning Community Development & Sustainment - 10%

This is a hybrid position designed to support flexibility with both in-office work, as well as some remote schedules subject to supervisor approval and department/program needs.
Salary for Announcement
This is a four year grant-funded position. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $59,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, training, and qualifications.

Responsibilities
The STEM Community Coordinator of the Colorado SpaceTech Scholars Program will work closely with the SpaceTech Project Manager and other members of the SpaceTech Scholar's team to complete the undergraduate engagement, community building, and student success goals of this grant. This effort will include the following activities and responsibilities.
Learning Community Development & Sustainment - 10%
- Work with campus-wide academic advisors, faculty, and partner student success professionals around MSU Denver to retain and persist undergraduate cohort in their respective academic programs.
- Work with the SpaceTech Project Manager on deliberative, intrusive, and proactive advising initiatives within the SpaceTech Scholars program.
- Support curriculum development initiatives from the SpaceTech Scholars project manager relevant to a first-year experience specific to STEM.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff within C-ACED in working directly with FYE students and leading subsequent first-year courses.
- Support the eventual transition of First-Year Experience Students to undergraduate cohort.
- Maintain oversight of the Peer Mentor Program including:
- Supervision of (2) student employees
- Ensuring the First Year Experience students connect with their assigned Peer Mentor
- Co-Develop and foster ideas of support community building programming from the peer mentor team.
- Work closely with the MSU Denver Classroom 2 Career Hub (C2Hub) Industry Navigator on Aerospace Science industry-specific employment, mentorship, and internship opportunities.
- Alumni Engagement; maintain a network of SpaceTech Scholar Alumni and Professionals of underrepresented backgrounds for professional development purposes.
- Develop familiarity with a network of external and industry specific resources, emphasizing strategic partnerships in support of the C2Hub Aviation & Aerospace Industry Navigator Staff
- Foster Industry Mentorship connections; collaborate specifically with the C2Hub personnel and programs focusing on mentorship and industry specific support, such as the COMPASS program.
- Conduct semesterly required check-ins with SpaceTech Scholars undergraduate cohort with the support of the Outreach Coordinator and Project Manager.
- Support and enhance opportunities for professional development pertaining to underrepresented students, examples of which include high-impact opportunity access, professional development, and developing critical social and cultural capital for underrepresented students within the College of Aerospace, Computing, Engineering, and Design.
- Develop familiarity with a network of campus-wide resources for student referrals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a related-field such as Education, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Engineering, Aerospace, Aviation, or other STEM-related field of study or profession
- Experience in community development
- Experience in event planning and program development
- Attention to detail and strong organization skills
- Able to work and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban-population
- Master's degree in Higher Education, human services, social sciences or STEM-related field to the position
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in a related field
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) ability
- Experience working to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience working in a higher-education and/or K-12 settings with diverse populations in a multicultural environment that is committed to equality, accessibility and inclusivity in education
- Experience working within a team and communicating collaboratively within an educational institution and stakeholders to the related entities of that institution
- Experience in public outreach and/or advocacy
- Experience related to working with government agencies and non-profit organizations on matters of diversity & equity, and student advocacy
- Experience working with industry specific partners supporting underrepresented communities
