The Classics Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a research and teaching focus on topics in Latin literature relating to cultural, social, linguistic, ethnic, racial, gender, ability, or other diversities in the ancient Mediterranean. Preference will be given to applicants who are also qualified to teach courses in material culture (e.g., archaeology, epigraphy).

Applicants to this position must present evidence of accomplishment in research and teaching. The appointee will be expected to build a portfolio of publications, teach effectively at both undergraduate and graduate levels, perform administrative duties associated with our B.A, M.A., and Ph.D. programs, and participate in our department's activities in the areas of student mentorship, curricular innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Classics or a closely related field before the position start date of August 16, 2024. Candidates whose PhD may be delayed but will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Instructor. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be changed to Assistant Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
