Position Announcement

Utah Tech University's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is currently accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, with a primary focus on Energy Research. The position will commence in Fall 2024. We seek a candidate who has demonstrated expertise in energy and power systems. This includes, but is not limited to, areas like energy generation/extraction, sustainability, management, storage, efficiency, and the future of energy and climate. Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver both lectures and labs in Energy, with opportunities to teach advanced courses aligning with the applicant's specialized knowledge.
  • Instruct foundational Geology or Environmental Science courses.
  • Maintain a teaching load of 24 credits annually: 12 credits each in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor undergraduate students in research, hands-on learning projects, and internships.
  • Uphold faculty responsibilities, which include providing office hours, participating in departmental and division meetings, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Actively contribute to service roles within the department, University, and local community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, Geology, Geosciences, or a closely related discipline. Post-Ph.D. advanced training or experience is a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, educational best practices, along with a continuous drive to stay current in the applicant's field of expertise.
  • Demonstrated potential for outstanding undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
  • Devotion to establishing an undergraduate research program that matches the applicant's specialized knowledge.
  • A proactive approach to collaborating with peers, staff, and administrative bodies, aiming to enhance our students' educational journey.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track or professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2024, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2024. Annual salary of $60,000-$64,000 depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
