K-12 Outreach & Engagement Coordinator
Job Description
The VSAREC K-12 Outreach and Engagement Coordinator leads the development of professional programs and relationships with school officials and teachers to expand community partnerships that will facilitate the VSAREC's implementation and delivery of STEM/Research based engaging educational experiences. This role is responsible for promoting student success through engaging educational experiences coordinating, communicating and conducting field trips/site visits from schools as well as site visits and presentations to local schools or groups. This position is responsible and accountable for coordinating experiential learning applications from concept, communications with school officials/teachers, through execution and recording of relevant data for reporting purposes. This position collaborates with all VSAREC units; including VA Tech Coastal Collaborator Center, Seafood Economic Analysis and Marketing Research, Food Quality and Safety and Consumer Education, and Bioprocessing Validation and Engineering in regards to potential involvement with K-12 programs.This position reports to the Aquaculture Program Manager, and when not actively engaged in K-12 program work, assists with routine aquaculture duties. As part of the aquaculture program this position assists in the training and supervision of interns, student assistants and volunteers. Works closely with VSAREC Communications Director in aspects of web page material, press releases and recording of relevant data for reporting purposes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or significant professional experience in relevant discipline or field of work.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work with youth, young adults and adults.
Experience working with K-12 youth in an educational environment and experience building community partnerships.
Proficiency in written and spoken communication.
Ability to work independently.
Adequate computer skills to maintain emails, Outlook calendars, and ADOBE InDesign or similar to produce printed communications and posters.
Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with aquaculture, aquariums, climate resilience or environmental studies.
Experience with STEM, life sciences, or educational programs.
Knowledge and experience in planning, executing and evaluating educational programs to diverse audiences.
