Position Summary

STOVS Math Instructor position is designed to teach college-level math (Calc & Stat) to students in the STOVS summer bridge program. The instructor will help prepare students for college math by focusing on important math concepts and practices that will enhance their understanding and abilities to solve mathematical problems at the collegiate level. The instructor will provide daily instruction for 2-hours a day, administering in-class assignments, take-home assignments, practice quizzes, and tests as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a variety of skilled duties to provide Math instruction and assistance to students with the goal of creating an optimal environment for student learning.
  • Instruct Math classes throughout the program (Monday- Friday 10am-12pm).
  • Host office hours as needed
  • Attend and participate in planning and feedback meetings.
  • Provide updates to STOVS director and professors regarding student concerns and needs.
  • Be available for student questions and concerns via email throughout the program
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be available from July 6 - August 19, 2022
  • Must have a strong background in Math.
  • Advanced knowledge of material in introductory Statistics, and Calculus I.
  • Experience and comfort in teaching students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate easily & effectively with students and faculty.
  • Knowledge of issues of difference in higher education, particularly educational equity.
  • Use initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to use MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Possess traits of good judgment that align with the University's mission.
  • Employment subject to satisfactory background check.
